The research activity regards different topics: rural development, social innovation, social farming, sustainable local development, quality and valorisation of products in the agro-food chain, theoretical and empirical studies on small farmers’ individual and collective strategies, socio-economic impact of sustainable agriculture, support policies for small farming and rural development at local and regional level and alternative strategies in agro-food system.

Professor Di Iacova is vice Director of the Department of Veterinary Science University of Pisa, Full Professor of Agricultural Economics. He has supervised several Master and PhD theses and acted as an external examiner for different Master degrees. He is a member of the Editorial board of `Scientific Journal Acta Regionalia et Enviromentalica ́ and he has acted as a referee for articles and books submitted to: Rivista di Economia Agraria, Journal of Rural Studies, Agriregionieuropa and Rural Europe. His teaching experience includes several years of lectures and courses in agricultural economics, agricultural policies, marketing, rural development at the University of Pisa. He has also provided lectures at other national and international Universities such as Cordoba, Nitra, Ghent, Urbino, Tuscia, Bologna, and Cosenza. In addition, he has provided lectures in marketing, rural development and agricultural policies to students in several international and national Master courses in Rural Development, Local Planning, Animal Production. He has also taught marketing and rural development for Doctorate and Specialisation courses at the University of Pisa. His research activities are mainly oriented on multifunctional agriculture and social farming, civic agriculture, food planning, social innovation and governance, and sustainable local development.
